Contemporary Figurative Artist | Classical European Training

“Everyone deserves to collect great art.”
— Andrei Protsouk

Born in Donetsk, Ukraine in 1961, Andrei Protsouk is a contemporary figurative artist whose work bridges the discipline of classical European training with the expressive freedom of modern American life. Raised in a visually rich household—his mother a master embroiderer and calligraphy artist, his father a professional photographer—Andrei developed an early sensitivity to form, composition, and storytelling.

He received formal academic training at the prestigious Lugansk State School of Fine Art, followed by advanced studies at the legendary Ilya Repin Institute for Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in Saint Petersburg, widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost classical art academies. There, Andrei studied under renowned master painter Evsey Moiseenko, refining his command of drawing, composition, and narrative expression. Graduating at the top of his class in 1989, he earned the elite Red Diploma and the Lenin Student Stipend, the highest honors awarded in the Soviet academic system. His drawings were selected for permanent museum collections and academic publications during his doctoral studies.

In 1994, Andrei immigrated permanently to the United States, a transformative chapter that reshaped both his life and artistic voice. His early Soviet-era work carried darker tones and weighty symbolism, reflecting themes of restriction and endurance. In America, his palette expanded into vibrant color, dynamic movement, and uplifting subject matter — celebrating freedom, connection, and the poetry of everyday human interaction.

Today, Protsouk’s paintings are collected internationally by private and corporate collectors, with works held across North America, Europe, New Zealand, and Japan. His art has been exhibited in New York City, including SoHo galleries and ArtExpo New York, and remains a cornerstone of the fine art community in Pennsylvania.

Central to his practice is his signature compositional method known as “Fine Line.” Rooted in classical draftsmanship, this technique uses strong constructive line to orchestrate rhythm, balance, and emotional flow within each composition. The result is artwork that continually reveals new relationships and visual pathways with every viewing.

Andrei’s subject matter explores love, romance, movement, music, café culture, and shared moments between people. His longtime colleague Gennadii Gogoliuk has described his style as “Americana Eroticism” — a joyful celebration of intimacy, optimism, and the sensual poetry of daily life. Through bold color, textured surfaces, and lyrical gesture, Protsouk communicates what he believes to be humanity’s most universal language: love.

Andrei Protsouk lives and works in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where he maintains his studio and Andrei Art Gallery, creating original paintings, museum-quality limited editions, and curated collections. His work continues to evolve as a synthesis of European tradition and contemporary American spirit — inviting collectors to experience beauty, emotion, and connection through fine art.
